Not everyone celebrates the same traditions over the holiday season. But I am sure everyone who is in a snowy climate (with the right kind of snow) has attempted a snowman, or gone on a magical winter hike at some point.

I love snowmen so much! They are one of my favourite winter decorations. Now that I think of it… this probably should have been a sn-gnome-man. Le siiiiigh. Next time, next time.

This wintery scene makes me think of growing up up north where snow falls were real and snow pants were a requirement. I miss the times of playing on the hill in the circle (iykyk), building snowmen, and tobogganing down the neighbours hill. The best!

This magical bookmark will be ready to purchase at my Holiday markets November 9th and 16th, and online at my holiday shop. All products will ship in time for stocking stuffing, or other holiday tradition here. Keep an eye on my Instagram and Facebook to see when and where you can gather up one for you, your friends, and your family.

Project – Stained Glass Gnome and NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH!

Project – Stained Glass Gnome and NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH!

I’ve crossed the streams!

Yet again it has occurred to be way late in the process that I could put my stained glass style to new use. I’ve be using this style for nearly two years now and it still isn’t my initial reaction to use it haha.

I give you the Stained Glass gnome!

This one came together in such a fun way. I love the glowy braids and how the logo fits right in with the paper pattern colours. I am so excited that I came up with this collision of my styles to pull things together a little more.

A gnome in stained glass would be the perfect idea for a new merch launch. Don’t you think…? Oh, alright then…

You’re hearing it here first… I have new shirts coming out this year! We will have t-shirts and long sleeve shirts available in the shop. Pre-orders will run from October 12 until October 25th. Shirts will ship out as soon as they are ready, or will be available for pick up at my November market on the 16th if you want to save on shipping.

Here’s a sneak peek at what we might have in stock:

Keep an eye on the socials to see when and where you can place your order. I can’t wait to see these out in the wild.

Project – A Witch!

Project – A Witch!

As soon as I started my Halloween list I knew a witch gnome had to be there. I had an image of a ridonkulously large hat and it was a done deal.

This one was beyond fun to build and I am so happy with this little witch and all of her friends. I liked playing around with some of the Fresco brushes and layering effects so that I could get a really cool effect for the “eye of newt” potion coming out of the cauldron.

This witchy beauty will be available on prints, cards and stickers at my Thanksgiving market and online the week after. Keep an eye on the socials to see when and where you can grab one for yourself.

Fall Update

Fall Update

It’s getting to be that cozy time of the year where we are pulling out our sweaters, boots and cozy blankets. There’s also so many great ways to get into the mood this season. I have been sipping pumpkin spice lattes, working away in the studio, and I have a lot of wonderful fall and Hallowe’en products coming your way.

We have all kinds of cards, prints, stickers and new bookmarks in the shop this fall and I can’t wait to share them all with you. You’ve seen these ones already, but there are still a few more coming down the line. Make sure to follow to keep up with all things Hues & Tones this season.

New Product Alert!

We have a new product coming out for the market this month. Keep an eye on the socials and here on the blog to see what we have and where you can get one (or several) for yourself.

Where can you find me this month?

  • Livestreams: Every Monday, 7PM EST on Behance, Facebook and YouTube.
  • I just finished my 30 Day Reel Challenge with the Mom Market. I had so much fun working through these videos. I’ll be putting my new skills to use moving forward. Check out Instagram and Facebook to see the reels I made and the ones I have coming up

What I am interested in this month

  • Going to start reading Dracula for spooky season
  • Started watching The Penguin on Crave – excellent start
  • Obsessed with Pumpkin Spice Werther’s originals
  • Made my own Pumpkin Spice Martini’s this week. A mix of Dark Roasted Coffee flavoured Vodcow and Pumpkin Spice liqueur from Junction 56, topped with a little Pumpkin Pie Spice. Solid recommendation.
  • Inktober is getting started on October 1 – check out the list on their website to follow along.
  • Adobe MAX also starts on October 14-16. There is an online element if you are unable to attend in person. Don’t miss out on all the new tools and features in your favourite Adobe products.

More exciting news!

For those of you who have been following my livestreams, you already know that I have started creating my own tarot deck! These are going to start going live this month!
Keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook to see how all of the cards are starting to come together. I can’t wait for you to see how they are coming together!

Project – Fortune Teller Bookmark

Project – Fortune Teller Bookmark

When I was starting to plan my Halloween graphics, I knew I had to have a fortune teller in here. The challenge when building the bookmarks is the limited space available to show all of the details.

I knew that I might not be able to show a full human figure and get the mysterious type appearance that I was picturing in my mind. This lead to the decision to break down the figure elements and not show the whole body. I opted to show the hands around the “magic” a little larger than the face. This was intentional and meant to show that they were closer to the viewer than the face was. It’s a little outlandish in the sizing, but also adds to the uncertainty or mystery that surrounds this character.

Mockup of the final design.

This bookmark is in print as we speak, and will be available at my markets and online starting Thanksgiving weekend in Canada. Check out Instagram and Facebook to see when and where you can get one for yourself.

Project – Ghost Gnome

Project – Ghost Gnome

The gnome that almost wasn’t. I had a vision for this gnome a while back, but when I went to illustrate it, I hit a roadblock. Usually the ghost has eyes cut into the sheet. However, one of the main features of my gnomes is that you can’t see their eyes. Hmmmmm. I had a few sketches with eyes cut out anyway, but it was tough to see what was going on. Then I thought just a sheet would work, but it was confusing to name the shape overall.

I was talking with my neighbour at a summer market and she mentioned the idea of maybe having the nose cut out instead. While I was on a call I picked away at that idea, and you know what? It didn’t work too badly.

I am so happy that this guy finally came together. It was such a great concept and would have been a shame to be without it. This is just another good example that some pieces need a little more trial and error than others. If you keep picking away at it, you can eventually get there.

This gnome will be available in prints and cards at my market Thanksgiving weekend. These items will also be online the following week ready to ship right away. Keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook for updates on when and where you can grab one for yourself.
