Happy New Year lovely patient readers. Thank you so much for hanging in there while I took my hiatus. I hope that we are able to get a lot done this year. I have big plans 🙂

I do hope that you all had a wonderful holiday and are able to keep safe and healthy through our world today.

I am going to kick this return off with a couple of projects that I have been working on over the holidays. I went all in for the advent knitting this year. I have done the day by day yarn calendar before, and I have knit some advent sock yarn before, but never both at the same time. I did the math and each day of knitting was roughly 3500-3600 stitches depending on the socks. It was really great to have tiny surprise each day. Here’s what I did.

ADVENTuring Wrap

This is the ADVENTuring Wrap by Ambah O’Brien. I have always wanted to knit this project, and I knew when I did that it would be a scrappy look/approach. I like the fade, but I loved the idea of challenging my perfectionism and making it a little more random. If I didn’t find the right advent I was going to just going to wait a little longer so I could make one from the leftovers in my stash. Luckily I didn’t have to wait.

Stash Lounge in Canada put out the perfect advent calendar for this project. I knew right away that this was going to be the calendar for me. This one was really unique to what I have seen in the past. Usually a yarn advent will come from one dyer and the yarn will be from their collection. Sometimes it is random. I saw a great one this year that was a planned out fade. All kinds. The 25 Days of Sweets from Stash Lounge was different though. They put together an advent calendar of minis from all different Canadian dyers! Each day was a new yarn from a new dyer, it was amazing! For the most part the bases were pretty close, but the colours were all over the place, but somehow still worked together. It was a wonderful way to gain exposure to new dyers that I haven’t heard of or had the chance to use yet. It was a wonderful idea!

I opened each mini everyday and knit it up on the wrap right away. If you want to see my technique, checkout my live video from earlier in the December on Instagram. It was really great to see how the colours pulled together. I would get one colour that was really bright, and I would wonder if it would work with the rest, but then a couple days later I would get another colour that would balance it perfectly. It was so much fun.

The final product really came together so well. It literally matches everything. It was also a great lesson for me in how colours work together. It helped me to not worry too much about how things will look in the end. It was a great project.

The Cozy Knitter Advent Sock

The Cozy Knitter is an Ontario Dyer who makes the most beautiful sock yarn. Her colours are wonderful and the yarn is a dream to work with. Magic. Every year she dyes up an advent yarn. The idea is that there is a mini for your heels and toes, and a 24 stripe skein. So each day the idea is that you will get one new colour for each day of knitting, all of which will be different until the 24th of December! This is my second year of knitting these and they do not disappoint.

Again, they are a lesson in how somethings can work together in the end. The overall look of these is so great. A little softer in the colours over last year’s but in an amazing way.

I just knit this up in a plain vanilla pattern, using heels and toes from other socks I’ve enjoyed in the past. A neat and tidy scrappy project hehe. Each skein knits up two pairs of socks (or whatever you want to make). My sister already called dibs on pair two this year.
